There are some guidelines to follow while you submit your website to directories. It will help you to improve acceptance of your website. Here is guidelines for writing titles, descriptions, keywords and “How to submit” to get better rate of acceptance.

URL:

Make sure, what is your URL, weather it is with www or without www? It is different for search engines according to mattcutts. so it is advised to submit only one.
Many directories DO NOT allow internal pages, sub domains or subfolders. Many directories do not allow deep linking (More than one URL per site.)

Bad: http://www.linkbuildingideas.com/xyz.html
Bad: http://www.linkbuildingideas.com/xyz/

Title:

Ideal: Official name of site + Keywords/KeyPhrases.
Don’t use titles more than 4-5 words, don’t provide multiplie titles.
Don’t use all CAPITAL letters.
No promotional Language. like “Best SEO tips”, “No. 1 Real estate company” etc.. Many directories may reject your site.
Use more than one titles with varied keywords for better results.

Good: Link Building Ideas,
Bad: Best Link building resources
Bad: Best Link building resources | Links building | SEO Resources | Website Promotion Tips
Bad: LINK BUILDING IDEAS.

Description.

Again, don’t use promotional language like “best”, “No1.”, “Excellent!!” etc..
Description should be between 150-250 characters. no less than 100 characters and no more than 400 characters.
Don’t repeat your keywords in description.
Use more than one description for better result.
Avoid capitalizing every word in a sentence.
Don’t copy your meta tags directly as title and description. They should be well formatted.

Keywords:

4-5 Keywords related to topic of your website are fine,

Email:

Avoid use of free emails. use either paid email addresses or email of same domain

Examples:

Good: webmaster@linkbuildingideas.com
OK: linkbuildingideas@aol.com
Avoid: linkbuildingideas@yahoo.com

Categories:

Many directories do not allow submission to top level. Try to submit best suitable category and if it is not available, use next most relevant category or suggest new category either by sending and email or by suggestion form if available.
Never submit to irrelevant categories.

Content of website:

Avoid:
Full with affiliate ads, Google adsense ads.
Sites with no content or crap articles.
adult content or content that links to adult sites.
Under construction sites.
Spam, Redirects, Meta Sites, and Links Only Pages.

Good:
Original and useful content.
Professional design/easy to navigate.

Find website relevant to your theme/industry and ask them for linking your website. You can in return, link back to them.

Many of webmaster sending email, calling webmaster or requesting it in public forums/blogs for such link requests. There are many programs running for finding partners for reciprocal link building. I’d suggest you to prefer 3 way link building.

• One way link building:- You will get links from site, you will not provide any link in return.

Many SEOs use this shorts cuts to purchase links on relevant industry for both relevant traffic and search engine rankings. When you purchase link from other sites, you can consider following factors.

• Google PR of page
• Traffic it receives
• SERP of that site
• Backlinks of page
• Type of link you will get (sitewide or one page.) Relevancy, outbound links
• if you’re purchasing sitewides then No. of page indexed and %of pages in supplemental results (If there)
• Age of Website/document
• Quality of content of website (also, weather it is original or not)
• Price of link
• Place where you will get link
• Tag they’re using (If you’re getting no-followed links, that they are only useful for traffic it will not help you to improve SERP.)
